Dear Friends and Community Members,

It is with the deepest sadness that I share the news of the passing of Gretchen Noah, a towering presence in the life and history of the Smith-Lemli-Opitz Foundation, a beloved member of our community, and a friend who lit up every room she entered with her energy and her smile.

Gretchen served our Foundation in nearly every possible way, including as President, Executive Director, Treasurer, and chief fundraiser, but those titles only begin to describe the scope of her devotion. For years, she carried our Foundation on her shoulders with fierce intelligence, boundless energy, selfless advocacy, fostered relationships, and an unshakable belief in what this community could accomplish together.

Because of Gretchen’s leadership, thousands of SLO families found resources, connection, medical support, and hope. Because of Gretchen’s persistence, the Foundation grew stronger, more visible, and more capable of serving children and families living with Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome. And because of Gretchen’s heart, so many of us felt less alone during both difficult and happier times in our lives and in the lives of the children and blossoming adults that we support.

On behalf of the Board and the entire SLOS community, we are heartbroken. We are grateful beyond words for Gretchen’s friendship and advocacy. And we are committed to honoring Gretchen’s legacy by continuing the work she gave so much of herself to build.

We hold the Noah family and Gretchen’s loved ones in our thoughts, and we hold each other close as a community in this moment of loss.

Gretchen, thank you for everything. You will always be part of the soul of this Foundation.
